Misericordia University is in desperate need of laundry upgrades.

Students all across campus are complaining of gross and broken machines, ignorant classmates and even sock thieves in the laundry room.  

“The washers and dryers are literally a biohazard. They are filthy, I think my clothes get dirtier than cleaner,” said freshman Ava Mullally, McGowan Hall resident.

Freshman Morgan Slusser of McHale Hall said washers tend to flood the laundry room, putting students’ laundry work on pause and interfering with their days.  

Students also say it extremely inconvenient to do laundry because there aren’t enough machines.

Sophomore Bella Prado, Gildea Hall resident, said her biggest complaint is how often the machines break down when there are not enough for the whole building.  

 “We should have select days on which floors can use the laundry room. I think that will make it better,” said sophomore Carissa Stefanski, Gildea Hall resident. 

 “With the select amount of washers in each building, it’s not okay for a student to take up all five washers at once, ” added sophomore Sierra Miller, Gildea Hall resident.

 The machine shortage stretches across campus to the town house complex, which has a limited amount of washers for the whole complex, said junior resident Delaney Campanella. 

 “There’s only five washers and dryers for the whole complex, and there’s really never a good time to go because they are always full,” said Campanella. 

 Students all over campus are inconvenienced by broken and old, inefficient machines. Resident Samantha Wallitsch said the dryers in McHale Hall take a minimum of 80 minutes to finish, and her clothes still come out wet.  

 “All I wanted to do was wash my freaking sheets, and I put them in the dryer for 80 minutes right, and tell me why they were still sopping wet? I wanted to go to bed. It was like 10:30 at this point, and I had to sit for another 30 minutes and then they were okay to sleep in,” said Wallitsch. 

Students said the laundry woes lead to havoc in the residences. When the machines are working, students are fed up with their own neighbors interrupting their cycles, impatiently moving their laundry, and even even stealing it, said multiple residents of Gildea and McHale Halls.  

Rafael Ferdandez, a sophomore in Gildea Hall, said recently he was doing his wash in the Gildea laundry room as he always does, and while his clothes were drying someone took his wash out early to use the dryer and his clothes were still wet.  

 “Today I was doing my laundry, and some random girl took my clothes out of the dryer while they were still wet and threw it all on the table and stole my Nike socks!” said Fernandez.

 Brian Korchok, a sophomore in Gildea, also said that he’s noticed missing socks from his laundry.
