Here’s an answer to that nagging, age-old question: Yes, Christmas decorations should come out before Thanksgiving.
The holidays are supposed to represent joy and good times, and more of both comes from decking the halls early.
Thanksgiving falls at a time when cold is imminent and there may even be snow flying. Christmas decorations could be a great talking point for the Thanksgiving Day dinner talk and to give the house that extra pop for r guests. Fall decoration can still be out since here’s no specific decorations for Thanksgiving besides a turkey and cornucopia. This is a great time for guests to see amazing decorations from both seasons and be reminded of joy yet to come.
The days are likely warmer, too, so decorators won’t have to deal with the cold winter weather and the frustrations that ice and snow may bring. The frozen ground does not have to be fought with when setting up outside decorations and no one will have to fear sliding off the roof when hanging lights on the gutter. Early decorating also brings a sense of satisfaction: Everything looks better.
There’s a scientific reason for early holiday decorating, too. According to an article produced by Today.com, a small study found that holiday decor produces a shift in happiness by raising your dopamine levels. “I think anything that takes us out of our normal habituation, the normal day in, day out signals our senses, and then our senses measure if it’s pleasing or not,” psychologist Deborah Serani.
Decorations can bring back many memories of holidays past and back that nostalgic feeling that we don’t experience every day. These feelings may be especially helpful for those who might be lonely and don’t have family during the time. Being able to see decorations may evoke a sense of happiness and joy. Further, research has shown that decorating might give decorators a social boost because they may be viewed as friendlier to others.
Sure, the naysaying “Bah Humbug!” people may argue. But I ask why not have some fun once a year and be festive and set up some decorations? While, yes, it does take time out of busy schedules, it holds high rewards in the end. . Houses look so nice and festive when set up for Christmas. but can bring a whole new level of joy and excitement to the season when we add the garland and the lights, the greenery and the snowmen a little early.
I believe that Christmas decorations should be put out between Halloween and Thanksgiving for all of these reasons. Christmas is a great time to be merry, and decor helps to make the last few months of the year a much better time. I think everyone should consider taking some extra time each holiday season and spread the holiday cheer early.
