Marvel hit the big bucks again.
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” an R-rated Marvel action/comedy flick released last July, is the third movie featuring the Marvel character. According to The Economic Times, it is the highest grossing R-rated movie in cinematic history. It earned $1.3 billion globally. The film is still playing in theaters, and it is two hours and eight minutes long. The film is rumored to be coming to streaming services and to purchase in October.
Shawn Levy directed this, the third version of the “Deadpool” films. His other well-known works are “Arrival,” “Free Guy,” and “The Adam Project.” This time, the new director changed the film’s style from the previous iterations.
The film director for “Deadpool” (2016) was Tim Miller widely known for “Terminator: Dark Fate,” “Rockfish,” and the series, “Love, Death & Robots.” David Leitch directed “Deadpool 2” (2018) and he’s know for “Bullet Train,” “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “John Wick.”
Levy chose to use lighter and more vibrant colors in “Deadpool & Wolverine” scenes, providing an almost comic, action-packed feeling. Otherwise, the style of the three films is very similar. They all use music and break the fourth wall throughout the three films.
The character, Deadpool or Wade Wilson, is played by the actor, Ryan Reynolds, in all three films. Reynolds was also a writer for “Deadpool 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and he also helped produce “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The actor’s other well-known works include “Free Guy,” “The Proposal,” “IF,” “The Adam Project,” “Red Notice,” “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,” “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” “The Amityville Horror,” “The Change-Up,” “The Croods,” “The Croods: A New Age,” “Spirited,” “R.I.P.D.,” “Definitely, Maybe,” “Turbo,” and several others.
There are other cast members that return for all three of the films. Actress Morena Baccarin plays Vanessa, Wade’s love-interest, and the actress is also known for “Fast Charlie,” “Serenity,” and the voice of Talia in the movie, “The Son of Batman.”
Actress and singer Leslie Uggams plays Blind Al, Wade’s roommate, in all three films. She has so many credits throughout her long career that it is difficult to name them. Some works include “American Fiction,” “Dotty & Soul,” “The Leslie Uggams Show,” “Nanny,” “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” and the show, “Fallout.” Actor Karan Soni plays Dopinder, Wade’s taxi driver and friend, and fans have seem him in “A Nice Indian Boy,” the show, “Abbott Elementary,” the show, “Miracle Workers,” “Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Creep,” and “Creep 2.”
Actress Brianna Hildebrand plays Negasonic Teenage Warhead, an X-men mutant and Wade’s friend, and she is known for her turns in “Tragedy Girls,” “Runt,” the show, “Trinkets,” the show, “Lucifer,” “Playing with Fire,” and the show, “The Exorcist.” Finally, Stefan Kapicic plays Colossus, an X-men mutant and Wade’s friend. His credits includee “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” “Slotherhouse,” and “One Shot.
Of course, fans know that each film features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Jackman has played the impossibly buff character for 24 years and nine movies. In addition to this this career-making role, he appeared in “The Greatest Showman,” “Real Steal,” Prisoners,” “Les Misérables,” “Flushed Away,” and much more. He is after all, a mega star.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has the highest Rotten Tomatoes score out of the three films, but it has the lowest critic Rotten Tomatoes score. The audience score is 94%, and the critic score is 78%. That’s better than the “Deadpool 2” audience score of 86%, and but not the the critic score of 84%. It also beats the “Deadpool” audience score of 90%, but not the critic score of 85%. It seems the critics are a tough crowd.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Deadpool” are tied with IMDb ratings of 8/10. “Deadpool 2” has a rating of 7.6/10.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” has 116 f-bombs in it, and yet there were still young children in the viewings I saw. Is that a thing? Is the f-bomb so commonplace in fantasy films that parents give it a pass?
I believe “Deadpool & Wolverine” is so successful because the characters Deadpool and Wolverine are classic Marvel characters from the comic books and previous movies. They are characters with large fanbases. I love both characters, and I am a big Marvel fan. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the best movie of the three films. It is comical, action-packed, emotional, and pure entertainment. I got to see Wolverine in a new light, and I have had the song “Like a Prayer” by Madonna stuck in my head since I have seen the film. I really enjoyed all of the cameos in the film, and I will forever remember Dogpool running towards me on the screen. I went with friends who had no previous knowledge of Marvel movies, and they still laughed and enjoyed the film.
Deadpool has risen, and who knows what the future will hold. If someone finds out why Thor is crying, please let me know. Bye, Bye, Bye!
