Jenna Schuda has set a program record for Women’s volleyball with 3,161 career assists and counting, an achievement that reflects her years of hard work and competition as a setter.
“It is a great feeling to get to see all the hard work I have put in, in the gym and with my team, shown in the assists record,” she said.
When Schuda became a part of the women’s Volleyball program, she didn’t have breaking a record in mind. Her goal was to challenge herself and improve every time she stepped on the court.
“When I first started playing volleyball at Misericordia, I came in with the goal of getting to play the game I love. I am an extremely competitive person, so every game became a competition against myself to see how I could play better. I never thought that this mentality would lead to this accomplishment. It was just a fun way to make myself better and challenge myself more,” she said.
Schuda’s drive for constant improvement, her skill set and her leadership as a setter, all pushed her to become the player she is today. Jenna has been recognized for her career assists, and she has also been named the Misericordia Wendy’s Female Athlete of the Month and MAC Freedom player of the Week. She ranks 27 in the Misericordia Top 100 Student-Athletes of the Century, Academic All-MAC team and American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American team.
Her competitive nature wasn’t the only thing that pushed her to be better. For Jenna, this achievement reflects her team and coaches, and their support for one another.
“I feel a lot of gratitude to my team and my coaches for consistently pushing me to be a better person and player.” she said.
As she nears the end of her time at Misericordia as a senior speech-language pathology major, Schuda wants to pass on her hard-working nature to younger volleyball players.
“I hope that younger volleyball players will see how competition and holding yourself accountable in those moments at practice, in the gym, and during games will make you a tiny bit better each time. Keep your standards high by getting that extra rep or hustling for that last touch, it will help you achieve more than you ever thought you could,” she said.
