Free Flu Shots Available on Campus
Flu shots are now available for Misericordia students in the university’s health center located in the Anderson Center.
Students who wish to receive the flu shot will have to call ahead and make an appointment at 570 674 6276 with the nursing staff. The shots are free for students and encouraged by the on-campus medical staff.
Dr. Sandra Federo, the Director and Nurse Practitioner, addressed the flu shots and rumors of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots being available at Misericordia.
“We always encourage it (getting the flu shot), especially with Covid; symptoms are similar to each other,” Federo said.
“I don’t know if the booster is approved for young adults yet,” Federo continued. “If students are working in a high risk area, they might also be approved. It is most likely that students will have to wait for their booster shots. The health center is not responsible for giving out the booster shots to students. I know the vaccine is on everyone’s minds and we want students to be as safe as possible.
Senior Katie Han offered her thoughts about the flu shot.
“I probably will get the flu shot,” she said. “I mean they are providing it and it’s free, so why not?”
Junior Joe Baldachino, however, had a different opinion.
“I am probably not going to get it…. I don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said
“If students are experiencing symptoms of the flu, they should see the health center as soon as possible,” Federo said.
The health center has tests meant to detect Covid, flu type A and flu type B. Results for these tests can be returned to students in less than an hour in most cases.
Flu shots are not mandated for Misericordia students.
