Misericordia To Offer New TikTok Studies Program

Misericordia University to offer TikTok Studies in 2024

A new program for students looking to pursue a career on the social media platform TikTok will be offered at Misericordia in fall 2024.

This idea came to light after administrators noticed the increasing number of students using the app, and especially the amount of students building a platform on the app.

This new program will reside in the College of Business, aiming to teach students how to market themselves on social media, the content creation process, the science behind trends, and, most importantly, dancing.

Misericordia looks to employ faculty from local dance studios to teach some of these classes, while current faculty in the College of Business will teach other courses.

Some of the courses to be offered include Introduction to TikTok, Video Editing, Trends in Social Media, and, of course, TikTok Dancing.

To kick off this new offering, Misericordia has invited famous TikTok creator Bella Poarch to campus to talk with current and prospective students about how they can start a career on the platform.

“I’m excited that schools are seeing the potential success this platform can bring to students,” said Poarch. “I hope that, when I visit, I can help teach them something to help kick off their careers or build their current one.”

Poarch’s appearance is tentatively set for Sept. 2024, but subject to change based upon availability.

Current Misericordia students are excited for this new offering. Junior Mass Communication and Design major Kobe Martin believes it will be a great addition to the school’s course offerings.

“It’s really cool,” said Martin. “Social media is growing and offering a program for it will help students use [that] growth to their advantage.”

Misericordia’s plan is unique and university officials hope it will reach a new body of students.

“We hope that it’ll expand our family and that students from all over the country will, hopefully, come to Misericordia just for this program,” said an unnamed administrator.

Put on your dancing shoes and get your cameras ready because TikTok is here at Misericordia.
