Taco Bell, our savior

Abby Blockus, Editor in Chief

I have reviewed a lot of incredible restaurants in my day, but I may have found the absolute best dining experience in the entirety of the Wyoming Valley.

This involves a story. One rainy Thursday evening, my friends and I had just wrapped up a study session in the library. We were itching for a bite to eat.

It was about 10 p.m. at this point and most restaurants around had closed their doors for the night. Using Google search, we saw one standing soldier – Taco Bell’.

It was open until 11 p.m.; we didn’t have a lot of time, so we hopped in the car and made our way on over. We looked at the menu ahead of time and ordered on their mobile app, which was incredibly convenient and expertly crafted with easy navigation. We each ordered a “My Cravings Box,” which is made up of three items as well as a drink for only $5. Where else can you get so much food for only $5?

Upon our arrival, we told the order-taker our name at the speaker; he greeted us with a cheerful “How can I help you?” which is such a positive attitude to have at 10 p.m. I was overjoyed the worker was not annoyed with a last-minute order.

We pulled around to the window – cold, damp, tired, and hungry. We were met by that same worker, who greeted us with a warm smile. It was this smile that assured me we were in good hands.

He asked us if we were cold; we all nodded. He closed the window, turned around, and said something to his co-workers that was incomprehensible to us.

The worker handed us our drinks – three Mountain Dew Baja Blasts, a delicious, tropical treat, perfectly refreshing after our long study session.

After a few minutes, the worker opened the window and handed us a bag of food, very warm to the touch. It was a surprisingly small bag, but we drove off and parked in the lot to eat.

Upon opening the bag, we discovered it contained six soft tacos, not what we ordered. Instead of getting frustrated, we pulled around to the window and explained the situation.

To our surprise, the worker let us keep the tacos and gave us our original order with no questions. The soft tacos were a gift from God.

The food we had ordered was hot, hotter than your average fast food order. We can only guess the worker was telling his co-workers to make our food hot. That’s the closed conversation we assumed.

A cheesy gordita crunch, a hard taco with spicy ranch, wrapped in another soft shell held together with cheese, a perfect main dish for a post-study session snack. A hard taco, plain and simple, but a delicious continuation to the meal. Finally, a simple side of chips and nacho cheese, a perfect ending to a rather dreary day.

The meal was simple, but perfect in every way. I can’t thank the Taco Bell workers enough for their kindness. I will definitely return in the near future.
