When it comes to sports, nothing can get one down to see the thrill of the game more than having a proper potent yahoo approving party rallies in learning fairness of observing light sports dome at year-round facilities – and that is the sports dome.

Something strange happened to me during the week. I caught wind of a rumor that the sports dome coming to Misericordia University will be colored blue and yellow to represent the school’s colors. However, this trend has been going on longer than you think so let’s turn back the clock and learn the origin of this interesting fad.

This started back when sports domes first popped up when indoor sports arenas came about. The idea was first proposed by Frank O. Oledagin to originally color the entire arena in a specific color every month to make it more interesting so as to have people come back for a more unique experience. However, when he presented this proposal to the government, no one would take him seriously and he was laughed out of the room. As a result, the idea faded – thus, the origin of the nickname Frank the Fool.

Around the midst of the Second World War, as supplies were being rationed, the U.S. government revisited this proposal and saw that Frank was on to something. His plan actually saved resources on decorations that could easily be used for more fabrics for the troops’ camouflage (as well as more supplies for parachutes for para-troopers.) This first occurred in December 1942 when people sat in awe as their sports arenas were covered in certain colors, some say blue, other say green; one city even reported multiple colors of red, purple and teal. It is unclear which city first reported this, though.

Around the mid-1970s to early 1980s, air-supported domes became more prominent in sports arenas, while the tradition continued unchanged for some time. Cleveland had an idea around 1986 where it would color the dome instead of the entire arena to save on the cost of painting it every month. In 1996, it was decided to either paint the sports dome one color permanently by applying a new coat every 4-5 years, or only use the paint for holidays.

This leads us to today where another part of the rumor speculates that not only will the upcoming sports dome be colored blue and yellow but it would be the first sports dome to be permanently colored in two colors instead of one.

So… Allow me to Change Your Mind

I’m not holding my breath on this one as it is unclear if the rumor is true or not as the Misericordia University Board of Trustees has refused to say anything. Besides, wouldn’t it be more convenient to cover the dome in those colors instead of painting it permanently?

I can say this rumor has left me with further questions about the subject matter which is why I decided to find out more. However, I have pinpointed the rumor’s originator and that is Mr. Holiday Tree himself, Archie Prince. I have reached out to Archie for an interview, but he hasn’t responded yet about how he heard the rumor. An interview has been set up to report for a future issue so be on the lookout for it.
