Freshman forward Lindsay Hischak was in perfect position as she took a pass from across the circle and knocked in her first collegiate goal against Virginia Weslyan.
In what was only her second game, she added two assists to propel the Cougars to a 5-1 win.
“That’s really what I’m known for,” Hischak said of her passing. “Since I’m the furthest girl up front, I mainly work on drawing the defense and finding a teammate.”
Currently leading the women’s field hockey team in assists, Hischak’s speed and field awareness will help lead the Cougars offense this season.
Hischak is one of four freshman starters, and it can difficult taking on an important role right after making the jump from high school to college, according to Hischak.
“At first I didn’t know how much I was going to play, if even at all,” Hischak said with a laugh. “The first couple weeks were tough transitioning to the new level, but I’m getting used to it.”
Graduating from Crestwood HS, combining athletics with academics fueled her decision to join the Blue and Gold here in Dallas.
“All the other schools I looked at wouldn’t let you do both field hockey and nursing,” said Hischak, who started playing in seventh grade. “It was either one or the other, and here at MU I can do both.”
The Cougars (2-5) have come off a rough stretch in their schedule after playing #10 ranked Montclair State and falling by a score of 2-0.
“From here we just have to keep working hard to improve on a lot of things,” Hischak said.
As far as individually, Hischak will also look to improve as her career in a Cougars uniform progresses. Hischak has one goal and three assists so far this season.
“I’m going to get stronger to improve my shot, and of course work to become an even better passer,” Hischak said. “I want to help my team win as much as I can.”
