Dear Students –

I hope everything is going well for you as we start the 2021-2022 academic year.  I am excited and honored to be a part of this wonderful learning community at Misericordia University!

As I mentioned at the Opening Convocation, I am just beginning my third month as President, and I still have a lot to learn about Misericordia. I’ve been studying hard, but I’m not quite ready for the final exam!  Help me out by pointing me in the right direction, giving me pro tips about MU life, and inviting me to your events.

I know you’ll be great guides for me as I’ve already seen the character of the student body in so many ways. Misericordia will do even more to bring out your best.  The personal nature and relationships among staff, faculty, and students here are central to a productive, meaningful (and fun!) education.  It’s the soul of what makes us unique.

I was drawn to Misericordia because I discovered something distinctive when I was doing academic research about colleges and universities: Misericordia has an exceptional record of student retention and graduation rates, much higher than other schools like it. In fact, when it comes to degree completion, it’s one of the top handful in the entire country. Our students learn how to confront challenges and persist in their education. They thrive at Misericordia—and we are proud of all the effort that makes it happen.

One of our big efforts this year is dealing with COVID. We are determined to have as “normal” of an experience as possible.  We know it’s a better learning and living situation if we can be together.  So, I’m asking you all to help.  Get vaccinated as soon as you can, keep those masks on indoors, and follow all the good sense health protocols of handwashing, etc.  COVID is still with us, but if we are careful and attend to the expert advice, we can manage the situation and keep ourselves and our friends healthy.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can throughout the year, but in the meantime, you can follow me on Twitter, TikTok, and Instragram (I’m @PresDanMyersMU on all three) to stay in touch.  Best wishes and have a great year.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Myers, Ph.D., President
