The chemistry department put on a show for kids of all ages with ‘BOOm In the Night’ on Friday, Oct. 25, an annual event that includes hands-on Halloween-themed activities in Insalaco Hall, as well as outdoor demonstrations.

The indoor activities included slime making, experimenting with foam, periodic table bingo, and astronomy-themed activities and crafts. Students also manned a bake sale table and were able to get a card “punched” at each activity to earn a free bake sale treat if they completed their card.

The outdoor demonstrations included “puking pumpkins” or pumpkins that experienced a chemical reaction, causing foam to spill out of them. Other demonstrations included flaming gummy bears, flaming pumpkins, slime demonstrations, and glowing pickles.

Stephanie Pagan, senior government, law, and national security major and Women with Children program student, said, “My daughter Miya really enjoyed the ‘puking pumpkins’ demonstration and the flaming gummy bears.”
